Our Mission at Children’s Diabetes and Endocrinology is to treat and care for infants, children, and adolescents in Louisville, KY and surrounding regions with endocrine (hormonal) disorders. This involves assisting the primary care physician in the assessment and management of children with conditions that include: disorders of growth and puberty, diabetes, thyroid disorders, including thyroid cancer, adrenal disorders, and disorders of sexual differentiation, calcium disorders /metabolic bone disease, hypoglycemia, and other endocrine-related problems. We are committed to providing excellent, evidenced-based care, in a caring and compassionate manner leading to healthy lives.
What to expect
Prior to visit
-Obtain a referral from your primary care physician
-Provide medical records including recent visits to PCP and/or Specialists, recent lab results, growth charts, and X-rays
-Complete all necessary forms prior to visit and send them in to our office- they are available online
What to bring
-For your first visit, if your child has had a bone age performed (X-ray of the left hand and wrist), please bring the actual image on disc for us to read directly.
Reception check-in
-Arrive 15min before your appointment to complete all necessary insurance documentation.
-We respect every patient’s time, if you are 10min late for your child’s appointment, you may be asked to reschedule, so that the following patients that day can be seen on time.
-At each visit, you will need to present your insurance card (to make sure that we have the most up-to-date information) as well as any co-payment that is due.
Patient check-in and visit include
– measurements of your child including vital signs (heart rate and blood pressure), height, and weight.
-medication history
-Your Doctor will take a comprehensive medical history and perform a full physical examination. For adolescents, they have the option of asking the parent to leave the room for privacy. Chaperones are always available upon request.
-Your Doctor will also discuss findings and tests that may be necessary and answer all your questions.
-if your child needs nutritional or exercise counseling, or diabetes self-care training- that will be provided at the visit as well.
Additional studies
-your child may need additional testing such as blood work, X-rays, ultrasounds or stimulation testing. In almost all cases, we perform these at the office.
-the blood work is done by individuals who are experienced in pediatric phlebotomy. We use a butterfly needle (the smallest needle available) for all draws.
– Stimulation testing is a separate procedure in itself (ranging from 2 to 4hrs) that is scheduled with our nurses on another day.
